Semi-Permanent Makeup is an aesthetic procedure that can deliver impressive results, but it is not suitable for everyone due to potential complications. Below, we highlight a list of medical conditions and situations to consider before undergoing this treatment, as they can influence the process and aesthetic outcomes:
-
Herpes: Any active herpes infection is a reason to postpone the procedure.
-
Cold Sores (Herpes Labial): The presence of a cold sore outbreak also requires delaying the treatment.
-
Tanning: Ensure your skin is not tanned before undergoing the procedure.
-
Bruises and Bruising: If you have bruises or bruising in the treatment area, it is advisable to wait until they have completely healed.
-
Fresh Surgical Scars: Recent surgical scars must have healed before proceeding.
-
Pustules: Any type of active pustule or pimple is a contraindication.
-
Bacterial Infection or Wound Infection: If you have a bacterial infection or wound infection, it is important to postpone the treatment until it has resolved.
-
Inflammatory Acne: The presence of inflammatory acne should be treated before considering Semi-Permanent Makeup.
-
Viral Infection or Infectious Disease: In the case of viral infections such as Covid-19, colds, flu, sinusitis, or respiratory infections, as well as Hepatitis A, B, and C, it is recommended to postpone the treatment until the illness is under control.
-
High or Uncontrolled Blood Pressure: If you have hypertension, it is crucial that your blood pressure is well managed before undergoing the procedure, as high blood pressure can increase the risk of excessive bleeding.
-
Lip Fillers: You should wait at least 3 months before and 5 weeks after getting lip fillers.
-
Botox: A minimum waiting period of 3 months before and 4 weeks after receiving Botox is advised.
In addition to these considerations, it is essential to be aware of the following contraindications:
-
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Semi-Permanent Makeup is strictly prohibited during pregnancy and breastfeeding. You should wait until after childbirth and the cessation of breastfeeding.
-
Blood-Related Disorders: If you have blood coagulation disorders such as hemophilia, sickle cell anemia, or platelet disorders, the treatment is not recommended.
-
Epilepsy: Epilepsy can potentially increase the risk of seizures during the procedure due to nerve stimulation. Additionally, medication may interfere with the healing process.
-
Diabetes: People with diabetes are more susceptible to infections, and therefore, the treatment should not be performed.
-
Skin Abnormalities, Lumps, Keloids, Melanomas, and Tumors: These conditions should be assessed and treated before considering Semi-Permanent Makeup.
-
Chemotherapy: During chemotherapy, the treatment is not advisable due to a weakened immune system and the skin’s inability to heal properly.
-
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV): Due to decreased immune system function, Semi-Permanent Makeup is not recommended for those living with HIV.
-
Artificial Insemination: During artificial insemination or in vivo fertilization, treatment should be avoided until after childbirth and the cessation of breastfeeding.
-
Thrombophilia: Individuals on anticoagulant treatment for thrombophilia should not undergo the procedure.
-
Autoimmune Diseases: If you have an autoimmune disease, which involves the suppression of the immune system, Semi-Permanent Makeup should not be performed.
